King of the Hill once more, Jeter had a tremendous season in 2009 but one that is unlikely to be repeated. He hit .358 in the second half, and hit 13 HR at home, temporarily staving off a three-year skills decline. There is simply no place to go but down, and to what extent remains to be seen, but do not be fooled into thinking he will repeat.

What else can we say other than that he is a worthy number one overall pick? If you want to nitpick, his .384 BABIP was the highest of his career and is likely to fall, bringing his BA down a tad and perhaps limiting him to less than 25 steals, but other than that there is not much else to say.

As we enter 2010 the shortstop position may be as deep as it has ever been, though there are more questions than ever surrounding it. There are youngsters who have barely scratched the surface of their talent. There are veterans who are trying to rebound from disappointing seasons. There are those coming off career years.
